Sons of Anarchy is hard to watch, and not in a good way

“Sons of Anarchy” is a show I’ve heard about but never watched. Here’s what I’ve heard.

It’s about an outlaw motorcycle club.

It’s a huge hit for FX. More than 9 million people watched this season’s premiere.

It has lots of violence. And lots of sex.

“Sons” ends its seven-season life on Dec. 9. Cast member Drea de Matteo (aka Adrian from “The Sopranos”) said the finale would be one of the best finales in the history of finales. I thought: Maybe it’s time to get acquainted. So I tuned in to a recent episode “on demand.”

First came the recap of previous installments. In one snippet, an adorable tow-headed boy sits before his granny, who is Katey “Married… With Children” Sagal with blond streaks in her dark hair. The boy smacked another child at school with his metal lunch box. He says it was an accident. Sagal asks, “Do you know what an accident is?” The child peers at her and says, “Do you?”

I was totally blown away by that superb dialogue.

Then came the sex. It was kinda pornographic. And later came the fisticuffs. Some rival gangs had a big gun fight. One guy came over to a wounded guy lying on the ground and with HIS BARE HANDS scooped out that guy’s eye, which was left dangling from his head by a thread. That’s when I hit “exit” on my remote control.

“Are you sure you want to stop playing?” asked the TV.
